Kamami Christine Michira
Ms. Michira is a Kenyan Advocate of the High Court and a Partner at IKM – DLA Piper Advocates. She is a member of the Law Society of Kenya and the Institute of Directors (Kenya). She is very well versed in corporate governance issues relating to regulatory environments. She spent four (4) years at the Centre for Corporate Governance, where she worked in the region extensively in conducting research and developing guidelines on good corporate governance. She continues to work with the Centre in training directors on Corporate Governance.
She is certified by the Institute of Directors (Kenya) as a trainer in corporate governance, the Commonwealth Secretariat and has received training from the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group in board evaluation and has been extensively involved in the training of directors in the areas of legal duties, strategy and reporting.
While serving at the Capital Markets Authority as Head of Legal Affairs/Authority Secretary, she chaired the Executive Committee of the Authority and was responsible for among other things, development of the legal and regulatory framework, licensing, approval of public offers and listings as well as collaboration with other financial regulators. Ms. Michira also chaired the Legal Committee of East African Securities and Regulatory Authorities, a regional body that is charged with harmonizing the legal and regulatory framework and assessing the region’s compliance with the Principles of Securities Regulation issued by the International Organization of Securities Commission (IOSCO).
She has served on the Business Development Committee at the Nairobi Securities Exchange and been a key resource in the Securities Industry Training Institute compliance training programmes.
Within her practice, she advises on all types of securities transactions, with her practice covering equity, debt, financial regulatory and governance, structured finance and securitization transactions and the full range of derivative products. She has advised on nearly every type of capital markets offering. Issuers, underwriters and private equity sponsors of all sizes across a range of industries rely on her to help them raise millions in proceeds through a broad array of securities products, from the standard to the most innovative and complex.
Ms. Michira holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Nairobi, a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi. She is also a Certified Public Secretary.
